Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of things you might be wondering about Vennture and its products and services. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please feel free to use our contact form or give us a call anytime.

About our Company

When was Vennture started? Why haven't I heard about it until now?

Vennture is a new company, launched in August, 2019. But it has been in the dreaming, planning, testing, and development stages for the better part of a decade.

Do you offer your own stock models of mouthpieces?

At this point we are a custom shop. The whole draw is the ability for us to make new models in production runs of quantity one. With that said, we have developed a few models during our own internal testing that we think are pretty nifty.  As you might imagine, having VennCAD plus our back-end machining capability is a pretty ideal tool-set for the aspiring mouthpiece designer. You might see some in-house designs here on our site someday not too far in the future.

Are you currently hiring?

We don’t have any openings posted. With that said, if you have a vision for something you can do that we might find valuable (marketing/mouthpiece design and modeling/design consultation), please do get in contact and chat with us.

Designing Mouthpieces

How do I know what to design or even how to start?

Vennture believes that seeing is understanding. Download VennCAD, and learn how to use it. Start by viewing reference models that you’re familiar with. Compare and contrast them. Measure them. Then start thinking about what you would change. How about slightly adjusting the cup depth or volume of a mouthpiece you otherwise like but which you find slightly too big or too small? Or how about smoothing out the rim contour of a mouthpiece you find too sharp or sharpening one you find too flat? How about greatly deepening that cup and opening the throat of your ideal trumpet mouthpiece to make its perfect flugelhorn counterpart that feels the same but whose cup and backbore volume are more similar to known-good flugelhorn designs? The possibilities are endless. Or…consider adding a professional design consultation to your order.

How long does it take to receive my order?

We quote a lead time of 4- 6 weeks until shipment. Considering that many “stock” models take this long (or longer!) to ship, this is actually pretty quick (although we know waiting can be so hard!).

It may be rather quicker depending on our order backlog. If we ever experience significantly longer lead times, we will let you know promptly so that you can plan around it or request a refund.

One large chunk of our lead time is the round-trip time for plating. But Rome wasn’t built in a day. Trust us, it will all be worth it.

What if I don't like what I designed? Can I get a refund?

As with most customized products, we don’t offer refunds. But you can mitigate your risk by keeping your changes to an existing model modest, and by asking for our opinion. If you want to e-mail us a VennCAD *.mpc file for our review, we are happy to look it over free of charge. (Of course, if you want an iterative, interactive design experience, we’re happy to add a full professional design consultation to your order.)

But think of it this way: if you’re here, you probably have a drawer full of mouthpieces you don’t use. If you add up what you spent on those, the total dwarfs what it will cost to roll the dice and take a chance with a Vennture mouthpiece. But how many of those were designed by you, with your own two hands, in the comfort of your own home, with the opportunity to play around and tweak and start over and make it just the way you want it?

Go on, give it a try.

Why aren't there more reference models to choose from in the library? Can I lend you some to scan?

Vennture is definitely working hard to beef up the reference library. As new versions of VennCAD™ are released, the library will grow.

If you have a large or comprehensive collection of mouthpieces for any brass instrument and would be willing to lend them to us for digitization, please let us know. We are only interested in stock/production models. The idea is for us to offer reference models that our customers will be familiar with and which will serve as useful starting points for our users’ designs. A highly custom model is unlikely to fill this need.
